Decal Information

Historical Information

The USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) was the lead ship of the Midway class, built by Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company. Commissioned on September 10, 1945, she entered service only days after Japan’s formal surrender and did not see combat in World War II.

Midway became an important Cold War test and fleet carrier, participating in Operation Frostbite in 1946 and launching a captured German V-2 during Operation Sandy in 1947. After extensive modernization, she served in the Vietnam War, supported Operation Frequent Wind in 1975, and flew combat sorties during Operation Desert Storm in 1991.
