Historical Background
During World War II, British and other Allied forces used numbered bridge classification plates to help drivers and military engineers determine whether vehicles could safely cross bridges. Typically displayed as black numbers on yellow discs, the markings represented a military load classification rather than the vehicle’s exact weight. Appropriate numbers varied by vehicle type and configuration.
For vehicle-specific numbers and placement, see our WWII Bridge Plate Vehicle Reference Guide.
Combine with Other Vehicle Markings
For a more complete WWII vehicle, combine these bridge weight plates with our divisional and unit markings, tactical symbols and support vehicle plates. Use historical references to select the appropriate combinations for each vehicle and unit.
Application
Printed on clear-background waterslide decal paper. Cut out each plate individually and apply over a properly prepared, gloss-coated surface using normal waterslide decal techniques. Use period photographs to confirm the appropriate marking and placement.
