Historical Information

Although this product is titled 1973 to present, the modern circular marking was actually reintroduced in 1972. It replaced the red square national marking that had been used for much of the period since 1918. The change returned Turkish aircraft to a highly visible circular insignia consisting of concentric red, white, and red areas.

The new marking coincided with a major modernization of the Turkish Air Force. It appeared on aircraft including the F-100 Super Sabre, F-104 Starfighter, F-4 Phantom II, F-5 Freedom Fighter/Tiger II, and C-130 Hercules. Later generations carried the same national identity on the F-16 Fighting Falcon, KC-135R tanker, and upgraded F-4E Terminator 2020.

Frontline aircraft may carry subdued or low-visibility variations, but the red-white-red roundel remains the defining national marking of modern Turkish military aviation.
