Historical Information
This set represents the national aircraft insignia of the Republic of China Air Force, commonly associated with Nationalist China and Taiwan. The marking features the white sun emblem of the Republic of China set against a blue field, creating one of the most recognizable Asian military roundels.
The white-sun emblem predates the relocation of the Republic of China government to Taiwan in 1949 and was carried by Nationalist Chinese aircraft during the Second Sino-Japanese War and Chinese Civil War. After 1949 it continued as the identifying national insignia of Republic of China Air Force aircraft operating from Taiwan.
The marking spans a remarkable range of aircraft and eras, from American-supplied wartime fighters through Cold War reconnaissance aircraft and modern Taiwanese combat jets.
Representative Aircraft: P-40 Warhawk, P-51 Mustang, F-86 Sabre, F-100 Super Sabre, F-104 Starfighter, F-5E, F-16, Mirage 2000 and Indigenous Defense Fighter.
Roundel size and placement vary considerably between wartime, Cold War and modern aircraft. Period photographs are recommended when modeling a specific ROCAF subject.
