Historical Context
Both squadrons served in RAF Bomber Command and became closely associated with the Canadian contribution to the night bombing offensive. No. 419 Squadron, formed in Britain in December 1941, operated Wellingtons, Halifaxes and later Lancasters. No. 431 Squadron formed in 1942, initially flew Wellingtons, converted to Halifax V and III bombers, and later finished the war with Canadian-built Lancaster Xs. Their operations included targets across occupied Europe and Germany as part of the sustained Bomber Command campaign.
