Historical Context
No. 35 Squadron became the first operational RAF unit equipped with the Handley Page Halifax and flew the type's first combat operations in 1941. In 1942 it was selected for the Pathfinder Force, helping locate and mark targets for the Main Force. No. 158 Squadron became one of No. 4 Group's best-known Halifax units and flew the type on the great majority of its wartime bombing operations.
