Historical Context
No. 76 Squadron re-formed in 1941 as the RAF's second operational Halifax squadron and became one of the type's best-known Bomber Command units. No. 102 Squadron also became a major Halifax operator after earlier service with the Whitley. Both served with No. 4 Group and took part in the expanding night offensive against Germany, including attacks on industrial targets, ports and transportation centers.
