1-300 North Vietnam Star & Bar Aircraft Markings
This decal set represents the barred national aircraft insignia used by North Vietnam and the Vietnam People's Air Force during the Vietnam War. The design combines the Vietnamese yellow star with a red central field and horizontal bars, creating a highly recognizable combat-aircraft marking.
North Vietnamese aviation originally used a simpler yellow-star marking after the division of Vietnam. In the mid-1960s a barred form became established on combat aircraft, coinciding with the expansion of the Vietnam People's Air Force and the introduction of newer Soviet-supplied fighters.
The marking became synonymous with MiG combat over North Vietnam and remained in use after reunification, forming the basis of the national aircraft insignia of the modern Vietnamese People's Air Force.
Representative Aircraft: MiG-17, MiG-19/J-6, MiG-21, An-2 and other North Vietnamese and early unified Vietnamese aircraft.
Marking size and bar proportions varied between aircraft and units. Use photographs of the specific MiG or support aircraft being modeled for the most accurate placement.
