1-300 Royal New Zealand Air Force Kiwi Roundels
This decal set reproduces the distinctive Royal New Zealand Air Force roundel featuring the kiwi, New Zealand's iconic national bird. The design provides a uniquely New Zealand identity within the traditional Commonwealth roundel format.
The RNZAF experimented with national symbols in the center of its roundels during the postwar era. A silver fern was used from the late 1950s, but visibility and durability concerns led to the adoption of the red kiwi as the official roundel emblem in 1970.
The kiwi roundel has since appeared on generations of New Zealand combat, transport, patrol, helicopter and training aircraft. Modern operational aircraft may use black or grey low-visibility versions while trainers and heritage schemes can retain more traditional colors.
Representative Aircraft: A-4K Skyhawk, BAC Strikemaster, C-130 Hercules, P-3 Orion, MB-339, T-6 Texan II, NH90, A109 and other RNZAF aircraft.
The kiwi is oriented to face forward on aircraft, so check the direction and placement on the specific airframe being modeled. Low-visibility black and grey variants should be matched to period photographs.
