These 1-300 WWII German aircraft tail-marking decals reproduce the black swastika-form insignia carried on the vertical tails of many Luftwaffe aircraft. The marking was a political emblem of Nazi Germany and is reproduced here solely as a historical identification detail for scale aircraft modeling.
Unlike the Balkenkreuz, which appeared on the wings and fuselage, the swastika was normally positioned on the fin or rudder. Black versions were especially common where the surrounding tail finish was light enough to provide clear contrast, including pale camouflage, natural-metal areas, and some prewar or early-war schemes.
As Luftwaffe camouflage evolved, the tail insignia could be altered with white edging, rendered in white, reduced in size, or partly obscured by field repainting. Variation was especially noticeable during the later years of the war.
Black tail markings appeared on a very wide range of Luftwaffe aircraft, including the Bf 109, Bf 110, Fw 190, Ju 87, Ju 88, He 111, Do 17, Do 217, transports, reconnaissance aircraft, and trainers.
