This decal set represents the national aircraft insignia used by the Royal Malaysian Air Force during the formative 1963-1982 period. The distinctive blue-and-yellow marking reflects the national identity of the newly established Federation of Malaysia and differs from the later roundel styles used by the RMAF.
Malaysia was formed in 1963, and the Royal Malayan Air Force became the Royal Malaysian Air Force. During this period the service used a distinctive square-form blue-and-yellow aircraft marking before later adopting revised roundel designs in the 1980s.
The 1963-1982 marking spans the RMAF's rapid development through the Indonesian Confrontation, Communist insurgency operations and the transition from early British aircraft to increasingly modern combat and transport types.
Representative Aircraft: CAC Sabre, Canadair CL-41G Tebuan, F-5E Tiger II, A-4PTM Skyhawk, C-130 Hercules, DHC-4 Caribou and helicopters of the period.
