Historical Information
This decal set reproduces the modern Royal Australian Air Force national roundel featuring the red kangaroo at the center of the traditional blue-and-white circular marking. The kangaroo gives the RAAF a uniquely Australian identity while preserving the visual heritage of its RAF origins.
The distinctive kangaroo roundel was officially adopted by the RAAF on 2 July 1956. It replaced the plain red center of the earlier RAF-style roundel and quickly became one of the best-known national military aviation insignia in the world.
The full-color roundel has appeared on generations of Australian combat, transport, maritime patrol and training aircraft. Modern tactical aircraft may instead use subdued black, grey or low-visibility versions depending on role and paint scheme.
