Historical Information
USS Midway (CV-41) was commissioned just days after the end of World War II and became the lead ship of a new generation of large American fleet carriers. Over nearly 47 years of service she underwent major modernizations, operated increasingly advanced jet aircraft, served extensively during the Vietnam War, and took part in Operation Desert Storm before becoming a museum ship.
