Nakajima Ki43 "Oscar" Type III

Hayabusa or "Oscar") was the final ultimate World War II variant of the Imperial Japanese Army's lightweight fighter. It featured a powerful Nakajima Ha-115-II radial engine (1,230 hp), improved pilot armor, and heavy dual 20mm cannon armament to counter late-war Allied aircraft.

Home Defense: Stationed across Japan and the Ryukyu Islands to intercept heavy American bombers.
Southeast Asia & China: Utilized by frontline units like the 64th and 54th Sentai operating in Burma, Sumatra, and Indochina.
Kamikaze Missions: As the war neared its end in late 1944 and 1945, many surviving Ki-43-III airframes were assigned to suicide attack units targeting Allied shipping off Okinawa and the Philippines.
Postwar Use: Abandoned or captured airframes in Indochina and China were later operated briefly by French colonial forces and local Chinese communist units.
