This sheet contains 1-300 left- and right-side tactical markings and serial numbers for five different Short Stirling squadron options, with three aircraft sets for each. Also included are single marking sets for No. 51 Squadron, No. 58 Squadron and a German-captured No. 7 Squadron Stirling.
Historical Context
The Short Stirling was the first British four-engined heavy bomber to enter operational RAF service during the Second World War. Beginning combat operations in 1941, Stirlings served heavily with Bomber Command's No. 3 Group and were also used by Pathfinder and later airborne-forces units. Although gradually replaced in the main bombing role by the Halifax and Lancaster, the Stirling continued to serve in minelaying, special duties, glider towing and transport missions.
